From the archive, June 13, 2013: a monumental installation created for one of the world's leading professional services firms in the heart of Tokyo.

At the very center of Japanese business, I inscribed a company's resolve into the space itself — an unforgettable commission.

A Manifesto in Ink for a New Marunouchi Office

To mark its 45th anniversary and the opening of its new office in the prestigious Marunouchi Building, Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting LLC commissioned a piece to serve as the spiritual backbone of its new headquarters.

The subject was the firm's corporate slogan: "Bringing New Power to Japanese Business" (Nihon no Business ni, Atarashii Chikara wo).

Its strong will to keep leading the Japanese economy as a consulting firm — I wrote that word, that "kotodama," as a massive work spanning several meters.

Black Impact Running Across White Space

To draw out the refined beauty of the office design, I paid careful attention to the framing as well.

• "Floating" calligraphy: by using a pure white frame identical to the walls, the frame all but disappears, so the characters seem to rise up and float in the space.
• Stillness and motion: dynamic black brushwork runs across a silent white corridor. The contrast symbolizes a professional stance that holds both calm analysis and burning passion.

Burning a Vision into a Space

This installation goes beyond decoration; it burns a company's vision into the space itself.

A dignified, bracing air is born there — the kind that makes those who enter stand a little straighter.

Every consultant and client who passes through is reminded of their mission; the calligraphy becomes the will of the space.
