From the archive, October 16, 2012: a sophisticated collaboration with PARKER, the prestigious British writing instrument brand that holds the Royal Warrant.

It was a memorable project in which a world-class brand and a calligrapher resonated over the simple act of writing.

A Connection Through the "Ingenuity" Writing Instrument

This exhibition grew out of an earlier engagement, when Chosho Yabe was interviewed for the launch of PARKER's revolutionary "Ingenuity" collection (the 5th mode of writing) and calligraphed its cover title.

The venue was the bustling Welcome Zone on the 1st floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya, a premier department store in Tokyo.

There, she took part in the "Parker 5th New Product Experience Fair."

Expressing the Theme "Communication" in Calligraphy

At the center of the venue stood a symbolic panel-box tower, where Chosho Yabe's original handwritten piece was displayed.

The concept was a showcase of "young creators who love Parker 5th Technology," and she was chosen as one of them.

The theme she was given was "Communication."

The Power of Handwriting to Convey Feelings

Even in today's increasingly digital world, handwritten characters carry a special power to deliver one's feelings to another person.

The sensibility of traditional calligraphy and the new writing technology PARKER pioneered resonated over a single point — the joy of writing.

The display conveyed the warmth and possibility of handwriting to the many visitors passing through the department store.

What a Brand and Calligraphy Can Show Together

Whether with a brush or a state-of-the-art pen, the act of writing remains a fundamental way of connecting one heart to another.

Historic craftsmanship and modern writing innovation met in one place, and I remain proud to have stood there as a calligrapher.
