ホテルニューオータニでの新経済サミット2013レセプションでの書道パフォーマンス

From the archive, April 15, 2013: looking back on a summit of global innovators in the spring of that year.

I performed at the reception party for the "Japan New Economy Summit 2013 (NES)," held at Hotel New Otani.

A Gathering of Revolutionaries

The venue was Hotel New Otani in Tokyo.

The summit brought together CEOs and founders who have sparked numerous innovations in the internet world, including representatives from Twitter, Square, Google, Pinterest, and Skype, alongside leading Japanese companies such as LINE, CyberAgent, GMO Internet, and Rakuten.

Its aim was to realize the "metabolism" and revitalization of the Japanese economy through vigorous discussion.

"Ketsugo" (Integration), Written with the Taiko

In collaboration with a Wadaiko (Japanese drum) performance, I delivered a dynamic calligraphy session.

The word I wrote was 「結合」 (Ketsu-go) — "Integration," "Bonding," or "Union."

I chose it to symbolize the fusion of different technologies, ideas, and people that sparks innovation, and wrote it powerfully with that wish.

Behind the Scenes

In fact, a special live calligraphy session dedicated to Mr. Hiroshi Mikitani, CEO of Rakuten, had originally been planned.

However, due to the presence of unexpected VIP guests and sudden schedule changes, the program was adjusted.

In turn, I poured all of my energy into the single "Ketsugo" performance.

Standing Before the World's Revolutionaries

Performing in front of people who are changing the world was a thrilling and inspiring experience for me.

If the power of a word and ink could echo, even a little, the energy of that room, then the night was worth every stroke.

Records of calligraphy performances at corporate events are gathered on the PERFORMANCE page.
