Corporate Reception Opening Act: Calligraphy for the President's Office
From the archive, June 6, 2015: a unique and inspiring corporate event.
I had the privilege of performing the opening act for a reception party hosted by a corporate client—a project that went beyond the stage and ended up in the president's office.
An Opening Calligraphy Performance for a Corporate Reception
To kick off the gathering, I delivered a dynamic calligraphy performance before the guests. The word I chose was 「アソビ」 (Asobi), written in katakana—"play" or "playfulness."

The Meaning of "Asobi" in Business
In a business context, "Asobi" carries essential meaning:
- Creativity: new ideas are born from a playful mind.
- Flexibility: like the "play" in a steering wheel, having room to maneuver keeps an organization stable.
- Innovation: enjoying the challenge leads to breakthroughs.
I poured my spirit into these three characters, wishing for the company to always cherish a spirit of enjoyment and freedom.
From Performance to the President's Office
This project did not end with the live performance. I was commissioned to re-create the same word as a permanent artwork.
I carefully brushed "Asobi" again on high-quality paper, and after professional framing, the piece was delivered. It is now displayed in the president's office.
It brings me great joy that this reminder to "never forget to play" watches over the company's decisions from such a significant place—and that the energy of a performance could take shape as a work that quietly accompanies each day.
Records of calligraphy performances at corporate events are gathered on the PERFORMANCE page.
