バンコクの泰国西松建設50周年記念式典で揮毫する矢部澄翔

From the archive, November 18, 2013: looking back at a memorable overseas performance. I traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to perform the opening act for the 50th Anniversary Ceremony of Thai Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd.

Celebrating 50 Years of History

Surviving and thriving for 50 years in a foreign land is an incredible achievement. I learned that the company played a crucial role in rebuilding Japanese factories during the severe floods in Thailand (2011).

Having prepared for this event through meetings starting six months in advance, I stood on stage with a heart full of celebration, feeling almost like a member of their team.

Three Wishes on Three Panels

To express my congratulations and wishes for future prosperity, I created three artworks on stage:

  • Center (White): 「礎」 (Ishizue - Foundation) — symbolizing the solid foundation built over 50 years and the starting point for the next 50.
  • Left (Green): "In the water there are fish, in the fields there is rice." — a famous Thai proverb ("Nai nam mi pla, nai na mi khao") describing the abundance and prosperity of the land.
  • Right (Black): 「招財進寶」 (Shozai Shinpo) — a traditional lucky character (a composite of four Kanji) that brings wealth and treasure.

I poured my soul into these works, praying for the continued friendship between Thailand and Japan, and the further development of the company.

A Company's Wishes, Entrusted to a Single Character

At an anniversary milestone, the journey so far and the hopes ahead are entrusted to a single work of calligraphy. Even in a land of a different language, I wrote believing that the prayer held in the ink would surely reach everyone.
