Medical University Meeting Japan: "Passion" at The Landmark Square Tokyo
From the archive, September 27, 2015: a reception held in Shinagawa.
I performed at "Meeting Japan 2015" for a medical university, held at The Landmark Square Tokyo.
Shifting the Atmosphere
The event was a standing buffet party with about 70 guests, including many from overseas. In a lively room where everyone is enjoying conversation and food, drawing attention can be a real challenge.
But this is exactly where the true power of shodo lies. The moment the brush touched the paper, I felt the atmosphere of the entire room shift instantly. The chatter faded, and a tense, focused silence filled the venue—the "air" of the room completely transformed by the energy of the performance.

"Jounetsu" (Passion)
In that focused atmosphere, I wrote the characters 「情熱」 (Jounetsu)—"passion." I chose this word to honor the ardor and dedication of the medical professionals gathered there.
Gifts of Calligraphy as Hospitality
To express Japanese hospitality (omotenashi), I presented guests with shikishi (colored paper) bearing my calligraphy as souvenirs.
I also had the pleasure of presenting a specially requested piece to the representative professor, who was delighted with the gift.

Adding a touch of "wa" (Japanese harmony) to a gathering that crossed borders, it was a wonderful night of exchange and art—proof that even across languages, the feeling in a single stroke of ink comes through.
Records of calligraphy performances at corporate receptions and international events are gathered on the PERFORMANCE page.
